  • DECRIPTION: The Peñasco Theatre Collective Summer Youth Interdisciplinary Arts Workshop is a community outreach program offering a low-cost, high-quality interdisciplinary arts experience to a diverse and inclusive group of area youth.

Through creative exploration, physical and skills development, group negotiation and dialogue, students and PTC Artist/Educators collaborate in a one or two-week circus-based arts workshop culminating in a free public performance. This workshop connects artistic expression with social responsibility toward the community. Youth choose a local environmental or social issue “theme” for each camp, which then permeates the activities, public art component, and final performance.

A variety of artistic mediums are represented; aerial (trapeze, rope, hoop, and fabric) physical theatre (clowning, juggling, acro-balance), poetics (writing and performing), visual art (painting and puppet making, folk and fabric arts), gardening, and dance (flamenco, hip-hop and other movement based disciplines). Past themes have included permaculture, water, fire, generational differences, nutrition and nurturing, bees, biodiversity and plant medicine.  With the exception of guest teachers, all artist/educators are local working artists.
