June 2017 Newsletter

JUNE  2017

We hear is loud and clear from the hot days and warm nights: Summer is Finally Here! Along with this summer buzz, we have plenty of Summer Events for Families and Youth listed. Check them out at the bottom of the newsletter.

This past May, we were honored to host a Site Visit from Drug-Free Communities (DFC) so they could learn about the good work and successes we have accomplished as a Coalition focusing on Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention. The DFC was interested in the special characteristics of our community and how we have worked with different organizations to accomplish our goals. Among seeing the Substance Prevention work we've been doing at Taos High School, they also met with members of the Rotary Club, Dreamtree, Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, Taos Police Department, UNM, and Taos County Solid Waste to name a few.

Taos Super Save will soon become the new Lowe's Market. Although Lowe's Market will be an establishment selling Alcohol, we have the great news that we will be working in collaboration with the Lawyer & Representative of Lowe's Market to abide by suggested rules for selling Alcohol to help decrease Alcohol getting into the hands of Youth. Among these suggestions are: segregated Alcohol Section, a specific Cashier for Alcohol Check-Out, Revolving bar entrance, and Alcohol Advertisements far from the site of children.

#LITLifeInTaos, an events hub for our youth  is up and running. We are populating it with more youth events content. Please send information to Taos Alive about your Teen Event  so we can include it on LITLifeInTaos!
